What He Did With the Moon Tonight

By Lindsay Illich

What he did with the moon

tonight was he

pressed her through a sieve,

and out came the blazoned

bones scattering

across the floor of sky.

What he didn't count on

was the unintended consequence

of losing her light, the stars

coupling, their penurious

leaning into each other's

gravity, burning up

with the need to shine.
