Rainwater

I was walking home
and you were like a rainstorm
soaked me right through
left me cold and shivering,
vulnerable—transparent,
walking home after the fact
waiting for my clothes to dry.

 

Amy Gijsbers van Wijk, formerly a resident of Houston, Texas, is a freshman at the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Brooklyn as a non-declared English and Journalism major. She was awarded two regional Silver Keys in Poetry in 2005 and 2006 from the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards. She was first published online at Poetry Zone when she was twelve. Since then, her work has appeared on teenink.com, and for the past three years through her high school newspaper, The Antler of which she was editor-in-chief. This is her first time to be published in a literary review.
