Midlife Crisis (or: Buy the Convertible)

By Brad Johnson

He convinced himself he was happy
until he met her and something about
the youth of her hands or the age in her eyes
charged the garage timer in his mind
which clicked on the backyard sprinklers
that would not duck back down until
the entire lawn rotted with over-saturation
or the pump motor smoked and burned dry.
