Bigger and Better Things

By Joseph Ferguson

a room

lit by the glow

of electric trains

tracing shadows

on the ceiling

tiny streetlights

painted heads

watch you

watch them

watch through

a child’s eyes

standing

transfixed by

unreal reality

deep in that

peculiar

state of Grace

we are all condemned

to leave

for bigger

and bitter

things
